T127 Develop Module: Updated Project Charter and Capstone Overview

 Overview of Intended Capstone Product

Report aimed at learning designers focused on a specific evaluation question of how Viewpoint can support authentic learning with:

  • Case study of designing and running the Learning Design Kick-Off Meeting simulation in T127

  • Brief descriptive data analysis of Learning Design Kick-off Meeting Simulation

  • Recommendations for when to use Viewpoint and the design process of a simulation

Creating the simulation and running both the first user test and then the pilot in class was a very involved process. We also collected a lot of data about the experience learners had in the simulation and using Viewpoint. I would like to document this design process in a case study as well as describe the data using charts and tables. I will highlight the major things we learned such as:

  • The absolute need for pre-work, or even making sure class-time is dedicated to familiarizing learners with their roles and the scenario
  • Identifying areas of inauthenticity, such as the fact that the TLL members in our scenario were spending just as much time trying to figure out each other’s roles and ambitions and building trust with each other as they were with the faculty member
  • Assigning roles based on personality rather than random assignment to make the simulation more fun (per the FACE model)

For the recommendations, I have been thinking about using a video format. I have been reflecting a lot on the “Media Development” session, and I thought I could draw on the Guo (2014) reading’s recommendations about talking heads paired with slides and optimal video length.
